The "Advanced weight settings" extension for OpenCart allows you to show the mass of products and the order as a whole on various pages, such as the product page, the cart, the checkout page, when viewing the order in the customer account, in the email notification about the order, when viewing the order in the admin panel, when printing the invoice and shipping note. For each of these pages, you can specify which weights to display there: the weight of a product unit, the total weight of the order. For example, the extension can display the weight in the cart for each product unit, as well as the total weight of the order.
Net weight or net mass for an OpenCart product
The module can also add a field for entering the net weight of each product. By default, in OpenCart there is only one field "Weight" in the product form, in this case it can be the gross weight, because the module allows you to add a new field to the product editing form - Net weight, this is the weight of the product without packaging or other materials used for transportation or storage. This is the weight of the actual product that the customer buys. The net weight of the product is an important indicator because it helps buyers understand the actual quantity of the product they are buying.
The extension can show only one "default" weight or two weights at once (net and gross)
The weight of the product may be indicated in different units depending on the type of product and measurement system. For example, weight may be in grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds, or other units. To avoid confusion and ensure accurate calculations, it is important to stick to the units of measurement, but thanks to the module you can specify the weight of the product in different units, and on the site buyers will see the weight in the units of measurement that are selected by default in the settings of the OpenCart store.
Gross weight is used to calculate transport costs. And the net weight can be important for evaluating the value of the product, since the price directly depends on the mass of the product itself, and packaging and other materials are often not important for the buyer.
Also, the Advanced Weight Settings allow you to specify the number of decimal places to show in the weight values on the site. Because in OpenCart there is no way to change this value in the store settings and two numbers are always displayed after the comma. With this extension, you can set any value, for example "0" if you only need integers in the weight value, or for example "3" if the mass of your product should have three decimal places, ie thousandths, like this practiced for the metric system of weight measurement.
Attention: the extension does not work with the weight of additional options, this weight is not counted.
Module installation instructions:
- Upload the module in the admin panel in the "Extensions" : "Install".
- Go to the "Modifications" section and update the cache.
- Go to the "Dashboard" section and update the template cache.
- Go to the "Extensions" : "Extensions" : "Modules" and enable the module.
- Edit module. Enable the status of the module and adjust all its options to your needs and save the settings.
- Check module operation.
- Bingo!
