OpenCart 4.0.2.3 is released. The return of ocmod is just around the corner!

Yesterday, on 16 September 2023, a new release of OpenCart 4.0.2.3 was released. We have been waiting for this version for two months since the release of the previous 4.0.2.2. It is worth saying that this is already a close to stable build of branch 4. Even the language is switched without any fixes, as they say, "out of the box", for the first time since the release of version 4. There is also a certain speedup of the CMS, modules are installed faster than before.

Of course, there are also problems, such as an incomplete system of subscriptions and a "crooked" CNC operation that does not allow you to get rid of the language prefix for the main language, even if there is only one language in the system. In the case of subscriptions, it is a very specific feature that is required only for certain types of stores and is rarely used. So something needs to be done with CNC and duplicates.

Also, OpenCart developer Daniel Kerr announced the development of an integrated blog, we have seen his dev-mode version in this build yet. In the meantime, you can already find many compatible OpenCart 4.0.2.3 extensions with us.

The whole list of changes in the new version of OpenCart 4.0.2.3 can be found here. As you can see, @opencartbot was also actively involved in fixing and resolving some issues.

So, v4.0.2.3 is the first version that is quite suitable for development of a simple online shop without a subscription system. But for one thing! Three days before this release, Daniel Kerr announced that he would return the ocmod modification system to the fourth version of OpenCart. So it's likely that the next release will already include ocmod, as well as a full integrated blog and a revised subscription system. This statement is not accidental, as the author has noticed a decline in interest among users and developers in his brainchild. Due to the complication of development of extensions, which since version 4.0.0.0 is possible only on the basis of Events, many developers have stopped developing and adapting their extensions for the new branch of OpenCart. Of course, the author noticed this and organised a poll about the return of ocmod, where the majority of users were in favour.

The return of ocmod will boost the development of new modules and the adaptation of old extensions and, possibly, bring a second wind to the OpenCart 4.x.x.x branch. And now you can start developing a website on version 4.0.2.3. After all, you can now update to the new version in a few clicks. However, it is not yet known how this function will work and whether there will be any compatibility issues with the module.
